We have enormous respect for the people who volunteer for animal shelters or other animal protection organizations! American Strays canine survey boasts a big number of volunteers, mostly the so called spotters. They go around searching for stray dogs in order to count and register them, and then report to various animal protection organizations or societies. Cathy Gray is one of them.
One day while she was searching the streets of Detroit, she noticed a visibly hurt young Pit Bull mix. The poor pup was in a very bad condition, and was only a baby! Cathy immediately called the Michigan Humane Society and they sent an officer to collect the pooch.
After some medical analyses they discovered that Penelope, that is what they named her, was only 6 months old, and she was definitely a Pit Bull mix. Additionally, she was suffering from demodectic mange with the secondary skin infection. Also, since she was living on the streets her diet was very bad so she had some internal parasites. In other words, if she hadn’t been found, she would not have survived for much longer.
What is interesting is the fact that she still loved to be in the company of humans! Even after so much struggle she was still very friendly and playful. This video is only the first in a series of episodes about Penelope, so make sure to check them all out to see her life journey!
