Most domestic animals that we use as pets can have many babies at once. Take cats and dogs for example! Twins are not really such a rare occurrence among them! In fact, it’s so common that we never even think of them as twins, but they are! Human twins on the other hand are quite rare, but not as rare as horse twins!
Only about one in ten thousand horse births results in twins and only about nine percent of them are carried to term! In other words, it’s extremely rare!!
So when Tiki’s owners found out that she was pregnant they couldn’t even imagine the surprise they were going to get! When this 16-year-old paint horse went for an ultrasound, they discovered that she was carrying twins! While it is true that most horse pregnancies involving twins are not successful, Tiki gave birth to two healthy twin foals at the Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital in Columbia City!
Because of their small size though, the beautiful little foals are expected to be ponies!
